Thomas Crispin’s five-year journey at UGL has been marked by continuous learning and leadership.
“I started at Bayswater, in planning and scheduling, and then moved into project management,” Thomas shares. “Working on the Beendeela hydro project in New South Wales (NSW) aligned with my engineering degree in renewable energy and led to a multi-disciplined role across all project aspects.”
Thomas later took on key roles at power stations and hydros, managing outages across multiple sites in NSW. Experience across various power generation projects has strengthened his leadership skills, making him a key contributor to UGL’s success in the sector.
Transitioning to the Beendeela project was challenging. “Severe weather caused a 12 month delay to the project start. A new and short turn around for project commencement was received and we had to coordinate with the client, develop processes, and engage subcontractors in a timely way to ensure project success,” Thomas recalls. “Strong mentors helped me succeed.”
Thomas and his team stayed adaptable, ensuring efficient delivery. The experience strengthened his problem solving skills and resilience under pressure.
Thomas enjoys playing cricket, a sport he has been involved in for 15 years. “It’s a great way to stay connected with friends,” he says. Family time is also a priority, with a second child due in February.
Thomas believes that UGL’s commitment to professional development and mentorship is what makes us stand out. With experienced colleagues willing to offer guidance and support, UGL fosters an environment where employees can grow and thrive.
“100% the people,” Thomas emphasises. “My first manager was a great mentor, and the culture of support and career progression makes UGL a fantastic place to work.”
