Arman’s 20 years of engineering excellence at UGL
After relocating from Germany to Australia, Arman has relished a two-decade-long career with UGL. His remarkable tenure includes contributions to significant national infrastructure projects such as the Perth Metro Rail, Sydney Metro Transport project, Sydney's Airport Link and busway project, Melbourne Metro Rail, and Queensland's Cross River Rail.
What has been your journey at UGL?
“I had been working in Germany as site supervisor for seven years but couldn’t stay as I didn’t have a visa, so I made the decision to come to Australia with my family. I joined UGL in 2003 as a Design Draftsperson where I held that role for eight years, working on projects that included the Sydney Metro, West Link M7, Lane Cove Tunnel (Sydney), Perth Metro Rail corridor and the Epping to Chatswood Rail link (Sydney). After this wealth of experience, I changed roles to Lead Fire Draftsperson working on the Airport Link and busway project in Pymble, NSW for three years. From here I had the opportunity to work on the Northwest Rail link as a Senior Drafter and was also the Lead Mechanical Draftsperson on the Melbourne Metro and Sydney Metro projects. Next was the Cross River Rail project as a Senior Draftsperson and finally where I am today as a Principal Drafter on the Systems Connect project located in Sydney.”
What have you learnt in your role?
“Every year there is a new version of the drafting software, we must learn to ensure we keep up to date. I am always being asked to explore new things and learn new techniques. This helps to increase my knowledge in the role that I apply to each project.”
What makes UGL a great place to work for?
“I have been with UGL for 20 years and have been lucky to work on some of the biggest projects in Australia. UGL is an end-to-end service provider, so many of the teams can see a project from start to finish. For me, being able to witness the inception of a project and see it through to its completion is a significant personal achievement.”
