Delivering Digital Transformation with Integra® Ecosystem
Digital transformation in Operations Management is best defined as the application of technology to solve previously unsolvable problems. For decades, operational technology (OT) applied in both industrial and infrastructure automation systems has been relatively unchanged – hardware (e.g. pumps, switchgear, ventilation fans and filters, etc.) being managed by programmable logic controllers (PLC), utilising field I/O devices for data communication, with a supervisory, control and data acquisition (SCADA) layer, replicating the underlying process in a visual system used by operators to monitor, and in many cases, control the end-to-end system.
With the rise of OT/IT convergence as an industry megatrend, traditional systems are being augmented with additional layers of information to provide more context for real-time operational decision support – technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and Cloud, to name a few.
The goal of digital transformation in Operations Management is to achieve operational excellence by optimising processes through the application of technology to enable people, regardless of the underlying process automation and communication technologies. UGL’s Integra Ecosystem does just that, with its proven performance and scalability, federated and service-oriented architecture, and powerful interoperability with both mission-critical and enterprise applications, driving more informed decisions and making operators more effective than ever before.
