Allan Baker began his apprenticeship as a Boilermaker in Taree, but two years out from finishing there was a lack of work in the area, which changed the course of his life. He came across an opportunity to move to Townsville and made the move to far north Queensland to work for UGL.
Not long after finishing his apprenticeship he went and worked in the mines but missed life at UGL. When an opportunity came up at UGL he jumped at it and has been enjoying the job for the last 19 years.
“You are always learning something. You don't realise you're learning a lot of this stuff at any one particular time, it sort of gradually built up over time,” says Allan.
“I like when you get a new type task and you have to work out the new processes to do it.”
