UGL has locked in an important step in our decarbonisation journey. From January 2025, 20% of UGL electricity consumption will be carbon neutral GreenPower.
GreenPower is independently accredited renewable energy from entirely renewable sources. It means that 20% of our electricity will have zero greenhouse gas emissions associated with it.
Purchasing GreenPower made sense for UGL because it aligns us to our peers and market expectations, and makes a substantial contribution toward UGL’s Sustainability Plan climate targets.
GreenPower is also another way that UGL is helping support Australia’s renewable energy sector. By purchasing GreenPower, UGL is helping increase the amount of renewable electricity needed in the grid, creating an additional market signal for renewable electricity projects.
This excellent outcome was achieved through the renegotiation of UGL’s corporate electricity contract by our corporate procurement team with support from our sustainability team.
“Integrating sustainable outcomes into our procurement decisions is not only the right thing to do, but it’s an important signal to our clients about UGL’s commitment and service offering of low carbon solutions” – John Topic, UGL Procurement Manager
