UGL has proudly completed its final works in partnership with Powerlink Queensland, at Woree Substation, a key infrastructure project that began in September 2021. UGL’s scope expanded from the initial award, reflecting the extensive and critical work completed over the past three years.
The Woree Substation project involved a range of complex upgrades, including secondary system enhancements, the installation of new 275kV bays, and 132kV Current Transformer Voltage Transformer (CTVT) installations. These upgrades, particularly the new 275kV bays, have been instrumental in connecting renewable energy centres in Northern Queensland and enhancing the reliability and monitoring of the 132kV network.
Throughout this period, the utilities team worked closely with Powerlink Queensland (PLQ) to ensure that all works were coordinated with PLQ’s outage windows, ensuring seamless execution and commissioning. Despite the complexities and challenges, the team maintained a strong safety record.
This milestone is not just a testament to UGL’s commitment to enhancing Queensland’s energy infrastructure, but also to the strength and capability of our utilities team.
