David Fitzgerald has spent more than 34 years with UGL and he’s not slowing down! Working as a Leading Hand, he’s been able to raise his family, with the Mackay workshop also close to home.
“I live probably three kilometres from work. I was able to bring up the family, children through university and everything so that’s why I stayed. That’s why I’m still here because I don’t really need to work,” says David.
He’s helping to shape the next generation of UGL employees, training and mentoring apprentices.
“I like to see them develop those careers,” says David.
Plus, there’s interesting work!
“I love challenging work. I like the real big work. We work on mining equipment. We do electrical work as well. My favourite, I like the machine side of things. I’m a fitter and turner and I like to stay on the big machines. The small machines I find very boring for me these days,” says David.
