“In my first rotation I worked with UGL Regional Linx in Orange. I was part of the maintenance and operations projects for the Country Regional Network. I worked with several teams and assisted the project engineers with different projects. I worked on project documentation, organising resources, updating the progress of work, and budgeting. Each month I went on site visits to complete construction supervision, identifying and reporting defects, along with site inspections to assist with planning and budgeting. Everyday there was a different task to accomplish that involved challenges which I embraced with enjoyment.
“I had the opportunity to be part of the major upgrade project of the Coolamon rail siding extension. The siding has been extended from 920 metres to 1530 metres, enabling access for modern and more efficient freight trains up to 1500 metres in length which benefits freight producers, operators and customers, as well as people using regional passenger trains.”
“In my current rotation I am working on the Humelink West Transmission Project.”
UGL, along with fellow CIMIC Group company CPB Contractors, has been selected by Transgrid to deliver the western section of the HumeLink high voltage electricity transmission project. The joint venture is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the western portion of Humelink. To be part of this program, please view our current vacancies.
“I am assigned to the civil works for substations which will be constructed/augmented in Wagga, Gugaa and Maragle. As we are in the early stage of the project, I am assisting the senior project engineer for preliminary tender works, scoping of different packages, drafting, and finalising project documents according to the client requirements.”
What made you choose the CIMIC Group graduate program?
“Working at UGL provides a diversity of projects that you can be part of, plus the opportunity to rotate between sectors attracted me. Being able to stay in each role for a year helps to capture a better understanding of a project rather than other graduate programs that are only six months rotation in length, because you don’t get the opportunity to learn. Having a longer time frame to see the whole workings of a project was a positive aspect for me.”
What advice would you give for those considering doing the program?
“Get out of your comfort zone, embrace the challenges and adventures!”
