Keeping passengers safe and preventing unauthorised access to the train tracks is critical as Sydney Metro converts the T3 Bankstown Line to driverless train operations, and UGL is proud to play a key role.
UGL is installing the Platform Screen Door system – state-of-the-art doors that align perfectly with the train doors, allowing access only when a train comes to a complete stop. Designed and manufactured by Hyundai Movex, the doors significantly reducing the risk of accidents and trespassing on the tracks.
We are also embedding devices which automatically extend to bridge the gap between the platform and the train when it arrives. These mechanical gap fillers mitigate the risk of passengers falling between the train and the platform and ensure a safe, smooth boarding experience. They are particularly important at older stations, where platforms are often not straight, creating larger gaps.
“The mechanical gap fillers are a first for Australian railways and an important part of providing a safe, modern metro system. The Sydney Metro project is a city-changing piece of infrastructure and UGL is proud to be involved,” said Stuart Hosie, UGL Operations Manager - Communications and Technology Systems.
UGL recently installed another Australian-first safety innovation for Sydney Metro – the Corridor Intrusion Detection System and Obstacle Detection System for the Sydney Metro Southwest project from Sydenham to Bankstown. [UGL installs Australian first safety feature for Sydney Metro]
