Leslie Osborne has spent the last 19 years at the UGL Townsville workshop doing pretty much everything! From driving a forklift and shunting trains, to working in the store and as a trade assistant.
“I like doing it all! Plus, the people, workmates, team leaders, they’re all fantastic to get along with,” says Leslie.
It hasn’t just been the love of the job that has kept Leslie at UGL, but the opportunity to learn and advance in the rail industry.
“I learnt to paint. I got my forklift licence. One of the skills they showed me is shunting, which demands a rigorous focus on safety! It was a good one to learn,” says Leslie.
But the best part of the job: “I’ve seen a few projects from start to finish. Watching everyone and seeing what they’ve got to do in each stage is great. When it comes to the end and the loco gets painted, that’s the best part. That’s the rewarding part when you’re involved in that job,” says Leslie.
And he has no plans of slowing down anytime soon! “I like working here. I don't really want to go anywhere else!”
