Clinton Cowell is a Logistic Supervisor on Snowy Hydro's Hunter Power Project (HPP).
Clinton started with UGL three years ago as a grouter in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. He has been on HPP for just over four months and loves problem solving: “Anyone who is involved with logistics knows that’s all it is. I love it. Networking plays a big part of my role, which I really enjoy.”
According to Clinton, a proud Ngarrindjeri man, employers can support Indigenous workers by just stopping and having a yarn. “We are always good for a chat. We all have some unique skills and can offer a lot of morale to a team. Sometimes, it just takes a little encouragement and direction to bring it out”, he said.
We asked Clinton for some advice for younger people interested in pursuing a similar career in logistics, and he says that “you should go for it! Logistics is a great way to move around and see different parts of Country. You’ll also get to work in a team environment, which is what I love about the job”.
UGL remains dedicated to engaging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees and communities. Our internal Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander networking group provides a space for employees to build relationships, connect, support one another, and share experiences. This group also advises the business on various partners and initiatives aimed at supporting community groups and enhancing engagement outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. UGL is the principal contractor for the construction of a 660MW power generation plant at HPP.
