Project Overview

The Sino Iron Ore Project is the largest magnetite mining and processing operation under construction in Australia, and at peak construction, 4,000 people were employed building it.

Once operating, the project will mine 140 million tonnes each year and the processing plant will handle approximately 80 million tonnes of material. CITIC Pacific Mining’s key aim is to deliver a world class magnetite iron ore development to help supply China’s insatiable demand for steel.

CITIC Pacific Mining awarded UGL a contract for the delivery of a number of essential pieces of infrastructure at the Sino Iron Ore Project.

The Challenge

As the first major magnetite mining and processing project in Australia, the challenge for CITIC Pacific Mining was to find a supplier who could deliver a complete mining infrastructure solution and help provide a platform for its immediate and future growth objectives.

Sino required an integrated solution from the delivery of a desalination plant, transmission lines to the build and commission of a complete on-site power station.
