About the role

We have an opportunity for a Strategic Business Development Manager to join our team.  Reporting to the General Manager Defence, you will be responsible for identifying, planning and delivering business development activity for the Defence division. The role will lead critical customer engagement, support the strategic process and drive innovative initiatives to achieve profitable business growth.
 
Key responsibilities: 
  • Developing commercially sound and structured strategy for Defence market pursuits;
  • Monitor and measure progress, refine plans if required and continue to evolve business unit growth;
  • Prepare and provide growth related budgets, reports, forecasts, pipelines and corporate information;
  • Leading specific BD, bid and growth activity across the market;
  • Develop marketing strategies, in conjunction with the marketing teams;
  • Establish personal contacts within the potential client base and maintain existing client relationships;
  • Coordinate opportunities from initial identification, strategy development and pursuit management through to tender preparation and contract negotiation;
  • Supporting transition into operation, ensuring the delivery of customer expectations;
  • Provide leadership, direction, mentoring and inspiration to team.
 
Essential skills and experience required:
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Finance or Project Management;
  • Experience in range of operational, project and commercial environments;
  • Strong communication skills (oral & written) including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships;
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Customer focused, team oriented, accountable and results driven;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast-paced environment;
  • Proficiency in developing plans, tracking progress, delivering on commitments and completing tasks;
  • Proficient skills in computers: MS Word, Excel, email.
